SR WOOD RECEIVES FSC CERTIFICATION
SR Wood, Inc. recently announced formal approval to manufacture and sell FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood veneer sheet products. The natural wood collection, marketed as CraftWood, offers manufacturers, millworks and craftsmen a first-of-its-kind certified veneer sheet product. The certification will help promote environmental conservation and sustainable forestry.
“To our knowledge, we are the first to manufacture FSC certified veneer sheet products,” said SR Wood vice president Brian Heil. “With demand for green materials being consistently presented by customers, we offer a unique set of green options.”
CraftWood products, which are available as FSC certified, include CraftWood paperbacked sheets (5 mil, 10 mil, 20 mil), CraftWood All Wood Edge sheets (2 ply), and CraftWood Peel and Stick sheets (PSA).
SR Wood selected to certify its manufacturing facility and warehouse, centrally located in Clarksville, Ind. “Our central location in the United States. has allowed us to receive considerable green activity from both East Coast and West Coast firms,” stated Bob Thornton, SR Wood sales manager.
CraftWood is a popular upgrade for both raw veneer faces and architectural plywood panels. Raw faces can be fragile and telegraph imperfections, while sturdier architectural panels have come under assault from environmental activists and lawmakers alike for high levels of formaldehyde, substantial wood use, and high energy consumption to manufacture and transport.
Unlike raw faces and architectural plywood, CraftWood is comprised of a strong lightweight two-piece construction: thin veneer and a lightweight backer. By adding the thin backer, increased levels of flexibility and strength are achieved using minimal material and energy.
By removing the need for a heavy plywood panel, significantly less wood fiber is consumed to manufacture CraftWood. No composite wood is present, automatically placing CraftWood in compliance with California’s proposed stringent CARB standards. Additionally, its lightweight construction involves less energy both to manufacture and transport, resulting in lower transportation costs.
CraftWood sheets are also Class “A” flame-rated
(ASTM E-84) and, despite being true natural wood, are flexible enough to achieve
a 90-degree radius.
